“Take my hand, take a breath
Pull me close and take one step
Keep your eyes locked on mine”
Ahh, the sweet melody of the dreamy love story of Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez dancing on the rooftops in the rain. The tune filled my headphones, filling my heart with sparkly colored joy. But something was different about hearing this song this afternoon.
Instead of the feelings of the longing for someone so special and beautiful, instead I danced in the light of my Father who loves me. Even more than any number of roses a man might bring to me, my God created those very flowers and tells them to bloom for me. Greater than any chocolate he could buy, my Abba created fruit and nourishment for my delight. Above any gift a man may buy, my Father has lavished on me His unconditional love.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” ~ 1 John 3:1
He is a beautiful and wonderful pursuer, relentless in His gracious love.
“And with every step together
We just keep on getting better”
With every step of our relationship, spending time with the Lord, we continue to grow in our love for Him.
“Oh, no mountain’s too high and no ocean’s too wide”
Nothing can separate us from His love. Even as we run away, He runs towards us and continues to pursue my heart. Even as I fail to seek Him, He continues to love me with all of His heart.
“Let it rain, let it pour, what we have is worth fighting for”
He promises that even when the rain falls and pours, He is with us and cares for us and will walk with us through it all. Even through the trials, He is worth pursuing and spending time with, for He is the master of the storms and always in control.
As I have talked about before, my grandfather passed away last week. Talking with my cousin today, she told me that I reminded her of him, and it made me feel so close to him, even now. She told me stories about him and of his kind and tender heart for others. I miss my family so much, who had to go and be with him, but I am quieted and stilled by His love that holds me secure in Him and helps me to rejoice.
God is constantly reaching out His hands and asking you and me to dance. He stretches out His arms and his smile exudes warmth and light. Every day is a new chance simply to answer His call, and to dance with my Father.
