I have a friend with an intellectual disability. She is so very sweet and kind, and such a joy to be around. She is amazing.
Many times and for too long, however, have I loved her in my own strength that is ever failing and unsustainable. She calls often sometimes and has a big imagination, which is very beautiful, but I am uncertain of how to love her well without looking to my Father.
When I don’t have the time to talk, may I ask the Lord for grace on me over guilt and wisdom and how to love her well. When I’m frustrated or do not understand her, may I look to Jesus Christ as a patient example of how to serve her well. May I be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ as I love and serve those with disabilities well, whom God created with a purpose, loves, and calls His children, a part of the family of God.
